Crime

Crime

In case you are wondering what is in the long list of what is wrong with our government –

“21 USC §352, 333 & 21 CFR §333.250(d)(1) make it a federal crime to sell athlete’s foot cream without telling users to “Pay special attention to spaces between the toes.”

“21 USC §§331, 333, 343 & 21 CFR §101.17(a)(1) make it a federal crime to sell food in a spray can without warning consumers to try and avoid spraying the food in their eyes.”

“21 USC §§352(f), 331, 333, 21 CFR §§876.5020 & 801.5 make it a federal crime to sell an over-the-counter penis pump without adequate instructions on how to use it. ”

“15 USC §§70b, 70i & 16 CFR §303.9(b) make it a federal crime to sell a textile product with a name like “beaverton” that sounds like, but isn’t actually, a fur-bearing animal.

BUT NOTE: under subsection (c), it’s okay to call your textiles “kitten soft.””

Yes, this is a federal government at work. This is why every law or code should have a forced expire date of 10 years or less.

Wrap

Wrap

I wrapped the header/uppipe and downpipe. I really hate header wrap, as it terrible for the underlying pipe, a serious fire hazard, and produces never ending fiberglass shards.

It does however reduce the heat exposed to other things that are really close by. Once I get my 08 STI back up I am going to start a new turbo kit from scratch that locates them down below.

GTO

GTO

Some of you may remember a few weeks ago I posted about the heater core lines in my GTO leaking as a result of heat from the passenger side turbocharger uppipe. I decided to replace the flexible line with stainless tube.

This should reduce the chance of leaks, assuming I get a good seal with the stainless pipe on an aluminum fitting.

With this out of the way I can re-wrap the header and uppipe and reassemble the turbo and get back to calibration.

UPB

UPB

I am working on the electrical design for our new house, and I need to make some decisions as it relates to the light switches. There are about 150 total light switches, and as with my current house I want them to be integrated into the home automation.

In my current house the light switches are UBP based switches, which use the power bus to do data transfer. (Similar to X10 )They are integratabtle into the OmniPro HA setup, and can be programmed for switch/load independence.

The features of the Simply Automated UPB switches are great, but there are some interesting problems with UPB. It is sensitive to noise on the power line from things like UPS and Plasma TVs. You can install isolators for those devices, but it takes some time to figure out which devices is cause problem.

The alternative is a switch that does either Z-wave or Zigbee. Z-wave is a 908mhz wireless mesh network, so the switches only need to reach the next nearest switch. Zigbee use 2.4GHz, so it tends to have a bit more interference with other 2.4GHz devices.

Any thoughts from my other HA friends?

I took my Suzuki Carry to DEQ, and it didn’t pass. Looks a tad rich. It is carbureted, so I know pretty much next to nothing about calibrating it. Time to learn somthun’.

A bit of sand blasting and those cleaned up nice! Now all I need is the 5/8 steel tube and I can get this car back together.
