Since I’m getting close to pulling wire, I need to decide on the layout of the server room. It isn’t a huge room, but this arrangement gets me 2x 48U server racks, plus a dedicated network rack, and I can get to the front and back of each rack. The ceiling in this room past the stairs is 9′ 10″
There is an access door in the back of the server room to a small concrete crawlspace that might be useful for wine storage or the like as it is fully underground and surrounded by concrete on all sides. The server room has a dedicated mini-split mounted on the side of the wall, and the dedicated 16KVa UPS will be in the mechanical room next door.
It would seem like 96Us of servers is plenty. As with most racks, power density will be the limiting factor. I’m only planning on 240V/60A (14kw) total rack power.
I finally got around to replacing the primary mirror in my f4.5 16″ telescope. The mirror was damaged by some hard water that corroded the coating. The mirror figuring still seems great, but it needs to be recoated.
I was able to source a replacement f4.5 16″ mirror, so I can then get the original mirror refigured and coated and have a spare.
I still need to do the center marking on the new mirror, as that is really needed to get a good laser collimation. I purchased a really cool template to help with the center location marking. I also took the opportunity to replace the cooling fan under the mirror. The fan is used to cool the mirror down since the mass of the mirror will usually prevent it from cooling down as fast as the surrounding air, and that temperature differential creates tube currents that distort the wavefront.
Putting speaker mounts in the ceiling today. I’ll be at the house most of the day if anyone wants to stop by and check it out. Msg me.
A few updated pictures as things progress. Exterior trim is getting fabricated and installed, some dirt moving has started to get the front driveway sorted, as well as the areas to the side of the house. Electrical has started with about 250 can lights to install, as well as about 130 outlets. HVAC is about 60% done, and plumbing about 60% as well.
Back to dirt moving… a few tree stumps get removed.
A good Saturday spent doing construction. HVAC is getting installed, drains are in, and pressure side are getting done. I have 190 drops installed (not wired, just drops and holes). ( there are a few comments in the picture descriptions).

The Bend Farmers Market gets bigger every year. Trend this year: More places with CBD, more whiskey, less coffee. Sponsored by Sotheby’s Real Estate, which seems fitting given the market here these days.
