Floors

The floors are done.. sort of. Two finish coats done, but there will be another polish and coat after appliance, plumbing, etc.

They look fantastic in person. The variance with the mix of rift and quarter sawn is stunning.

Audrey says they make a perfect dance floor, and demonstrated such.

I also completed the install of the second server cabinet in the server room.

Lights

Lights

Disco ball, check. Dance floor, check. 38+ speakers, check. Excellent taste in 80’s music, check!

The light fixture for the great room was installed today. It looks great, especially with the scale of the room. We used scaffolding to get it up there, as installing at ~22 ft is a bit out of reach of a standard ladder.

Yes, It does indeed look a little bit like the nuclear symbol. 😉

Deck heaters also installed.

House

House

A few things are still moving along in the house construction. Some of the outside landscaping has been completed, including the trees in the tree garden. The drip system is installed and running, and the front entry way has been acid washed.

I have been slowing installing lights inside, so some rooms are now lit with the Z-Wave switches. Both stairs have been tread, and we are selecting the floor stain.

Scott Rowland is doing a kick ass job building a custom stainless steel and glass railing for the back deck, which will look super cool when it is done.

House Sanding

House Sanding

Floor sanding underway. I think 4 passes, 60, 80, 100, 120 .. but I need to double check. Material is rift and quarter sawn white oak.

Zwave

Zwave

Listening to the top 40s countdown from April 1988 and installing can lights and ZWave switches. #rickrolledbytheradio.

Wiring

Wiring

I moved my cable modem and temp internet fw down to the server room, patched the cable over RG11 , and moved a temp AP as well.

I also have some of the fiber routed, and a whole bunch left to do…. and then there are the Cat6A drops… #terminationisfun!

House progress has slowed down due to working limitations, but the interior painting is almost complete. Next up is likely hardwood floor work, which is another category of work that can happen in our current social distance rules since the sander is wearing a respirator and no one else is in the house.

I have been working a bit on electrical stuff and driveway lighting, and Scott Rowland has been out on the back desk working on the glass panels. No idea when we will be done.

As an aside, I have not talked about Covid much in my feed, and I plan on keeping it that way. I have many many friends who are talking, informing, educating, and help out with our understanding of this pandemic. Like many of my other mathematical leaning friends I too have models, mathematica sheets, and excel graphs helping me understand and track things. I am thinking every day about how this is affecting all of us, and I am hoping our efforts help soften the curve.

I hope I can offer some distraction from time to time that tickles the mind, or at least makes you think ‘is that guy crazy’?….. Yes, my mother had me tested.

Doors

Doors

Audrey was very happy to get out of the house and go explore the new house. She had time to run around the forest, watch the eagles fly overhead, and ask me why the doors are so tall.

It was a beautiful day in Oregon today… if you ignore the incoming ‘top of the food chain resetting’ slap from mother nature.

The front entrance concrete is done and curing, adding another ~30 yards of concrete to the house. Painting continues inside, with a few more coats of final paint to go. Fortunately as things slow down I’ll be able pick up a lot of the slack. This weekend I’ll be doing electrical finish work upstairs, and some terminations downstairs.
